Wow. Time has gotten away from me. I meant to have this updated last week.

I want to thank everyone who came out for Etsy @ the Market. I had a great time meeting all of you. The weather was beautiful, which I am thankful for since the next day was full of rain and dreariness. I had lots of regular vendors and customers comment on how great everyone's items looked and how nice everyone was. They hope that Etsy sellers come to the market more often.

Also, we are now an official street team. I need to get a banner so it looks a little sad right now, but please feel free to join up. The goal is to get more etsy shows going in the area. Whether it is in Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti or Flint/Brighton area. If anyone has a location I would be more than happy to help organize the show.

I'm a full time mommy of 2 beautiful girls. I manage to squeeze some creative time in every day to keep from losing my mind. I create jewelry, diaper bags, tote bags, purses, wallets, etc.

I knit, sew, crochet, make beaded jewelry, love to work with wire, bead weaving, make paper crafts, altered art, paint, etc. I'm always trying something new, so you'll see a little bit of everything in my shop. If you don't see what you're looking for, I'll be happy to work with you to design it. I love custom designing, whether it be jewelry or sewing. I'd love to add one of my pieces to your collection!

I am a jack of many trades. I am a massage therapist, dietitian, urban gardener, leathersmith. I spent some time in NYC at Parsons where I apprenticed with some great ladies, learning the leather trade. Back home now in Michigan, I channel my creative energy into my work, both gardening & leather-crafting. Most of my pieces are made from remnants and scraps, which means there are very few that are entirely the same. Welcome to the wonderful world of Megg! Thank you for strolling just off the beadin' path! I have been making and selling my art for over twelve years now,in and throughout Michigan! I am a struggling and starving Artist in the worst sense of the word! At the ripe old age of 32 I have retired from the working world to spend my days changing diapers and chasing children around like a crazy person! At night, when all four of my darlings are tucked into bed I retreat to the land of Megg and I create anything and everything my little heart desires! I take comfort in knowing that my etsy site is always there just waiting for me, my window to a whole other world where I can be the person I have always wanted to be but never had the time to be. Etsy allows me to have Megg time, something I rarely experience when I am trying to be there for everybody else!!! What would I be if I could'nt be Megg, for at least a few minutes a day anyway!!!

I'm a college student who just can't decide what I want to do with my life. I'm coming back for a second bachelors in the fall to begin a fine arts degree with a concentration in jewelry. So far, I have an urban planning degree and an anthropology minor under my belt. My future looks towards a possible graduate degree at Universiteit van Amsterdam.

In the mean time, I make jewelry. I love working with silver, color, vintage beads and stampings, and gemstones.

My background is in piano teaching and medical transcription. I was rear-ended in 1998 and again in 2002 and, as the result of chronic pain, lost my wonderful transcription job in 2002. Enter in jewelry making! I have really enjoyed making jewelry out of vintage buttons; they are miniature works of art. My goal is to bring the most gorgeous, unusual vintage buttons to you. My name is Jessica Spangler and I am 23 years old. My fascination with fashion has developed gradually, but I am devoting more and more time to designing jewelry. I am inspired by runway style and I try to make what I love to wear.

I like artsy, different jewelry, but more importantly jewelry that is user-friendly and practical enough to wear often. I enjoy combining the genuine metals and stones of "fine" jewelry with the colors and personality of "fashion" jewelry. It takes a while to do 100 wire wraps and it is expensive to use genuine precious metals and stones, but I find the result is much more fun than a plain chain or string of beads. I hope you enjoy my designs just as much, and feel free to make special requests!

A little bit about me:

I love being a Work At Home MOM! [Although with 3 boys I go a bit insane sometimes!] I also love working small (hence my love of making jewelry).

I'm a Sculptor living in the "backwoods" of Michigan. I primarily work in metal and clay when I'm creating art - When making jewelry I'm attracted to metal, found objects and shiny stones/beads. I like to keep it simple - creating pieces that you will want to wear every day! I began working with metal at about 8 years old when I started hanging out in my dad's studio, looking over his shoulder and asking a ton of questions. One day I walked into his studio and he silently handed me a jewelers saw and a sheet of copper. It was his subtle way of keeping me out of his hair. ha ha!
My love of metal, jewelry, and all things tiny was born! Although in those days I broke more saw blades than anything else! I learned metalwork from my artist father (Hugh Timlin), learned all things creative and crafty from my mother (Two Moons) and studied art at the University of New Mexico with a focus mainly on ceramic and metal sculpture. I had some amazing instructors! Suzanne Stern - who is an amazing jewelry artist and has been featured in many jewelry art magazines, Constance DeJong who makes large scale metal sculptures and has work in several museums, Gina Bobrowski - an amazing porcelain sculptor. They taught me everything I needed to know and inspired me to keep creating and keep learning!

I still break way too many saw blades.

I have been sewing for as long as I can remember. Because I have never been good at taking instructions, (I always do first and read later), I never know exactly what I will come up with. I love doing needlework and experimenting with different embroidery stitches. Most of my items are my own design,except for the "Mossies", which come from a delightful book by Salley Mavor. They are my very favorite thing to make and I have come up with a few different ideas on my own! If I do use someone's pattern, even though I may change it, I will credit the designer. If you are interested in a particular color, let me know, I'll see what I can do! Everything is handmade with lots of love and attention to detail.

I am a stay at home mom of two kids, two shih-tzus, and a husband. I started to papier mache in 2005 and fell in love with it! I start each piece with an idea and a sketch. I often wish that my hands could work as fast as my head! My family has been a great inspiration, and they are always suggesting new ideas. All of my pieces are original and are signed 'Batts', a nickname my husband gave me long ago.

All of my papier mache collectibles are one-of-a-kind. Each one is molded, painted, stained, and coated with a matte polyurethane. Although they are durable, they are for decorative purposes only and not intended for play. Each piece is given a unique name and is then signed and dated. I hope you enjoy looking at them as much as I enjoy creating them!

I am currently in college at Central Michigan and am on my way to getting a degree in graphic design.

Expect quality items. I wouldn't sell anything that I wouldn't wear myself! Everything is stitched and serged to last, and is almost ALWAYS one of a kind! It is very, very rare that I make the same thing more than once.

It is made with 30 individually folded pieces of paper which are then joined together (with glue to make it more sturdy) to create the piece. The piece is 12 inches in diameter

I have had a lifelong passion for creating things that bring people joy. My inspiration for crafting comes from my mother, who passed on her creativity and love of crafts. I've always liked to draw and in recent years explored photography. I love capturing things that people normally wouldnt see with the naked eye.
I put my heart into everything I do. My passions are art and science. I hold a BA in criminal justice and plan on going into forensic laboratory work. Until then, I'm continuing my education, enjoying life and creating things when I can.

Each Beetlelady Book is made by by a single bookbinder, me. My interest in the book arts began when I took my first class in bookbinding in 2001. Since then, a combination of self-teaching and classes have allowed me to explore many bookbinding techniques and transformed bookbinding from something I dabbled in during my free time into a full-fledged passion.

No machinery is used in the binding. I assemble each book entirely by hand, using a set of simple tools. This results in durable one of a kind books, perfect for journaling, sketching, note-taking, and more.

I hope you will enjoy using my books as much as I enjoyed making them!

What's in a name?
Beetlelady Books gets its name from my principal career, Entomology. I am currently a Ph.D. student in the Department of Entomology at Michigan State University, studying the biodiversity of tropical bark beetles. I am 27 years old and have been making art my whole life. I am always exploring new mediums including, drawing, painting, sculpting and welding(GTAW, GMAW, SMAW). My latest endeavor is my two sided aluminum jewelry pieces. I hand cut, drill, sand and polish each piece of aluminum myself. I make most of the designs using silver wire to form the lines of the design and filling them with pigment, somewhat similar to cloisonne. Each piece takes many hours to complete and the glazing process usually takes 3 days per side. The designs are tiny and intricate and even when duplicated no two are ever quite the same.

I have been photographing my world since I was about 12 years old. My first camera was a Kodak 126 Instamatic -- and I still have all the negatives from those early days. My first "real" camera was an Exakta Exa 1a that I was given during my junior year of high school (1973). I used that camera for 10 years before I bought a Pentax MG slr, which I used for 16 years before I seriously renewed my interest in photography and in cameras in 1999. Now I use a variety of film cameras, ranging from cheap plastic “toy” cameras to Nikon SLRs, and Mamiya and Pentax medium-format cameras. I also use digital, and though I love my Nikon D70s, I really enjoy shooting with older manual film-based equipment. A photograph is a combination of what my mind sees, the opportunity before me, the capability of the equipment I am using, and the kind of light that is hitting (or not) the scene. Sometimes they all come together to form a great image.

All of my images sold are not digitally manipulated, other than the things I would normally do in a darkroom, such as adjusting contrast, color balance, and cropping. My Black and White prints are printed on fiber paper and are processed archivally. If I sell a print on RC paper, I will indicate that. I do not sell any images printed on ink-jet (giclee for you purists).
